Attending online job fairs is an excellent opportunity to network with employers that hire remote employees. It is also an opportunity to learn exactly what hiring managers are seeking in online workers. These events can be a little hard to adjust to if you are used to face-to-face interactions. What is an Online Job Fair: Online job fairs take place virtually. Yes, that is right, these events occur in the comfort of your home. Employers set up “booths” with information about their company, employment opportunities, career paths, and culture. Depending on the fair, job seekers can engage with employers in chat rooms and some offer video and voice options. This post will help you prepare and make the most of an online networking opportunity such as job fairs in just six steps. 1) Test Your Equipment. Nothing creates more anxiety than failing equipment. Try to check your technology as soon as you get access to the event. I suggest testing your connection speed and even consider hardwiring your computer to your connection instead of using wifi. If your internet is slow, find another location to attend the fair You will also need to see what downloads such as java and flash you need to complete to make sure your system is ready to go. Some events will require you to be on camera and use your microphone to speak with employers. If this is the case for you, test the equipment out beforehand. 2) Do Your Research. To be successful at a remote job fair you need to be extremely prepared. You need to research employers that are expected to attend the event, know what positions they are hiring for and learn about their companies. Successful job seekers take this step seriously. You need to know the industry well and be able to talk the language. If you don't look and act prepared, employers will not take you seriously. 3) Develop an Effective Resume. Many remote job fairs will ask you to upload a resume before the event. You should upload a resume but also consider having tailored resumes created for each job and employer you researched before the event. If you researched well in step 2, you should have enough information to help you tailor your resume effectively. 4) Prepare for an Interview. Yes, this is a job fair, but if you did steps 1-3, an employer might ask to speak with you and conduct an interview onsite. You should prepare for this situation. Since this is an online event, you can have notes and an outline to guide you with interviewing. Practice typical interview questions but also prep yourself for different interview questions. The more you prepare, the better you will be able to think under pressure. 5) Dress and Act the Part. Regardless if the virtual job fair requires video chats with employers, you should dress the part. An employer may decide they want to conduct a video call with on the spot after the fair. Dressing like a professional will keep you in interview and networking mode so that you can win recruiters over. Yes, this means saying no to your loungewear for the day. Also, you will want to write in a professional way to employers. Avoid using emoticons, gifs, incorrect grammar and casual talk. Remember to make sure your home is in order. If a recruiter wants to video chat with you, you don’t want them to see clothes all over the place. Before jumping on camera with an employer turn on your camera with just yourself and look at your background. Put items away that looks messy or even unprofessional. You might even consider adding some beautiful decor that is pleasant to the eye. 6) Have a notepad. You are attending an online job fair, so it is easy to take notes. I suggest that you keep notes of jobs you want to apply to and things that stand out about companies. As you talk to employers, write down anything that you need to remember. You should also note anything you have in common with the employer. Maybe you both went to the same high school. This information is something you can reference in a thank you letter later. Final Thoughts: Online job fairs are what you make them. If you want to be successful and you need to be professional and take the steps required for prepare for the event. Come with a plan and leave with results. Employers want to see you stand out and do more than the average job seeker. Overview: Most of us have heard about direct sales opportunities at some point in our lives. Maybe it was the Avon lady, Mary Kay Representative or someone who sells Tupperware down the street. According to the Direct Selling Association, 15 Million people in the United States are in Direct Sales. Some direct sales companies have been around for many years and are very likely here to stay. Today, there are many opportunities to earn extra cash or even full-time income in Direct Sales. You have options in makeup, clothes, shoes, accessories, candles, self-defense, food, personalize items, services and much more. If you are looking into a direct sales opportunity as another way to earn income trust me you are not alone. In today's market, we must become more creative in our pursuit of additional income. I am a firm believer of bringing in more than one source of income, and Direct Sales is one way to accomplish this. I know direct sales companies can gain a bad reputation because of a few bad apples. However, the majority of direct sales companies are legit as they operate under very strict regulations. I suggest that you check out the Better Business Bureau, Direct Selling Association and even Glassdoor for reviews and ratings. My Checklist for Evaluating a Direct Sales Opportunity: 𐄂 Try and test out the product or service. Is this something you can get behind to sell or present to others? 𐄂 Study the Company's Compensation Plan and how it would work for your financial goals. 𐄂 Pick an experienced mentor and one that has time to coach and train you. 𐄂 Determine if the company is heavy on selling or recruiting new business builders and if this fits with what you want to do. 𐄂 Pay attention to how your potential mentor conducts their business. Is it ethical? Can you see yourself duplicating their process? 𐄂 Look at how most representatives conduct themselves overall. Are most professional? Are they honest? 𐄂 How much do you want to make? How many hours can you commit to this business? 𐄂 Is it the right time for you to pursue a business opportunity? 𐄂 Determine your "Why." Why are you looking to pursue a direct sales opportunity? How can it help you and change things for your family? 𐄂Research the company entirely using all tools available to you. Search the Better Business Bureau, Direct Selling Association, Glassdoor. Google the business check for press releases and look for any concerning alerts. Final Thoughts Direct Sales can be a rewarding experience. It can serve as another stream of income for you and be extremely flexible. You will be able to be your own boss, set your hours and work around your family's schedule. You can decide to treat this opportunity as a side business or a full-time career. Remember most people don't become a millionaire quickly in these companies. However, many successful people in direct sales identify a product they love, choose a company that fits them, a mentor that train and coach them, and duplicate what works. If you decide to join a direct sales opportunity make sure you are confident that it is the right company for you. People ask me every day how do I manage to have full-time employment, freelance clients, consult work, blog and run a household. It isn't easy. However, there are cost-effective ways to get assistance with your work. For example, I decided to look into options for a Virtual Assistant. What does a Virtual Assistant (VA) do? Well, I am sure that you are very familiar with Administrative Assistant duties. You know the person that comes into an office and assist the department head professional of a company such as a Director or CEO. A Virtual Assistant does some of the same things. They work from home or remotely and sometimes they can live in a different country. A Virtual Assistant typically works with entrepreneurs, bloggers, and even freelancers. Anyone can hire a Virtual Assistant. The idea of hiring a Virtual Assistant or Virtual Assistant company has been on my list for over five years. However, I wasn't ready to hire and train someone to help with my workload. I didn't have the time or patience to commit to a personal Virtual Assistant for myself. Besides, let's be honest most Virtual Assistants and Virtual Assistant companies are a bit on the expensive side. I wasn't ready to give anyone $600 or more per month. I discovered a company called Fancy Hands in 2015, and I am hooked. This company hires assistants based in the United States. FH packages (March 2017): Here are some ways I use Fancy Hands:

Final Thoughts: In all, Fancy has helped me with my productivity efforts in the last two years. The turnaround of most of my requests are the same day, and at most the next day (even on the weekends!) I pay for this service out my pocket and believe it is worth every penny. This service can be helpful for anyone who needs extra hands with their professional or personal life. I suggest you check out the Fancy Hands service. Trust me you will thank me later. Thanks to technology, today's remote worker have many options when it comes to working for monetary compensation. People are no longer stuck at a 9-5 job or forced to make a long commute if they have WiFi. Remote work allows employees to work anywhere that has an internet connection. Here are a few benefits of remote work: Morale, Productivity, and Freedom According to Flexjobs, when you have flexibility in your work such as flex hours, working remotely and working from home, workers are generally in a better mood and more productive. Because of the freedom remote employees have, they won’t feel as if they are stuck in a tiny cubicle all day. In fact, if they have internet access they can work virtually anywhere, including in exotic locations while traveling or while in another town visiting friends or family. In many cases, the more freedom that an employee has the better their morale is. Since many employees who work remotely have more freedom, they tend to have a higher morale overall when compared to traditional in-office workers. Working remotely allows employees to be more productive. Being at home in your environment can be very motivating. It can also enable you to work at odd times when the mood strikes such as early in the morning, late at night or on the weekends. Employees who work remotely tend to get more done and are more productive thanks to the amount of flexibility that they have. Work-Life Balance and Family Many families struggle with trying to achieve work-life balance. Long commutes can make it difficult for families to see each other. When you work remotely, you have more time to spend with your family. Many remote workers have the flexibility to create their work schedule so that they can make soccer practice or dance rehearsal. Some remote workers don't have to worry about taking time off because they are unable to find a babysitter or because their child is ill. Remote work can be very beneficial for employees, especially those with kids and workers that care for an ill family member because of the flexibility. Cost Savings Working remotely can allow both the employee and employer save on costs. However, we will focus on the employee. The employee will immediately notice a difference in their bank account since they won’t have to spend money on fancy clothes, shoes, morning coffee or gas to commute to the office. Yes, that is right no more shopping for "work" clothes and clothes for your life outside of work. They can also save money making a healthy lunch from work versus going out to lunch with coworkers. If they have kids, they might even be able to save on childcare if the job is flexible and allows the worker to work around your child’s schedules. In some instances, they may even be able to deduct some items from their taxes such as a portion of your cellular phone bill if you use it to make calls for work and office related items that the employer doesn't cover. Final Thoughts In closing, there are many more great reasons to work remotely. However, working remotely isn't for everyone. You will need to be the type of person that can thrive in an environment where there is no one watching over your shoulder. You will need to create a routine and a way to keep yourself organized to be productive in a remote environment. However, working remotely can be an incredible experience. With communication tools such as chats and video conferencing, employees can have tons of fun with gifs, emojis, and excellent effects in video calls. I can tell you this from experience, once you find the right remote company, you will never want to go back to the traditional office setting. If you just started working remotely or from home here are some tips on making your transition. Looking for Remote Work?Guide WAH's Newsletter:

It can free you from having a commute, save you money on work clothes and allow you some flexibility. However, it can be difficult to be productive at times. Here are some tips that will help you be as productive as possible when working at home. 1) Set Up A Designated Work Area As tempting as it might be to lay in bed and start your day, it won’t help you be productive. To get the most work done, you really should have a designated area where the majority of your job will be taking place. Even if you don’t have a spare room in your home to set up, you can still find a quiet spot in your living room or bedroom to place a desk, computer, phone or anything else you will need to get your work completed. 2) Get Up And Get Dressed Everyday While you’re probably thinking if I’m working from home, why do I need to get dressed? The answer is simple; you will be more productive. Sure, it might be more comfortable to work in your pajamas or sweats, but you won’t get nearly as much done. You should start your day off by getting ready just as you would be if you were going to the office. When you look like you are going to work, you will feel like more confident and will be more productive overall. 3) Set Hours Even if your job doesn’t require you to have set work times, set aside specific work hours. During this time remove all distractions. Don’t take personal calls, attend to children or do housework. Even if it’s just 20 minutes at a time, you will be more productive than you would be in two hours if you are trying to multitask. 4) Create Daily Goals One of the easiest ways that you can be productive while working at home is to set daily goals. Start out small and make sure your goals are attainable. While it’s great to set lofty goals, you will only end up setting yourself up for failure if you set goals that you can’t easily attain. 5) Take Breaks Just as you need to take breaks if you were at an actual office, you need to take breaks when working at home. If you don’t, you will get burnt out and will find yourself having no motivation to do anything. For every hour you work, take a 10-minute break. Even if you just stop for a few minutes to have a cup of coffee or to take your dog for a walk, you would be amazed at how productive you will feel once you start working when your break is over. Ready to Increase Your Productivity?Make sure you follow it each day to get the most done and to achieve your goals. By utilizing these simple things, you can increase your productivity. Checklist ❒ My workspace is in a designated area of my home and is only used for work ❒ I start my day by getting dressed and getting ready for the day even if I will never be leaving my home that day ❒ I set hours each day that I work to minimize distractions ❒ I create daily goals that I can obtain if I am productive ❒ Each day I take breaks to regroup and increase my ability to get work done Looking for Remote Work?Guide WAH's Newsletter:
