When I started my journey looking for a remote opportunity it was stressful. I didn’t know where to look and which sites to trust. At Guide to Working at Home, we proud ourselves in helping people just like you search for opportunities that are flexible and fits your lifestyle. If you are a reader of our site, you will probably notice by now that we always mention Flexjobs as an additional source to use in your job search. I have done my fair amount of research, and Flexjobs remains at the top of my list when looking for remote, work from home and flexible opportunities. Flexjobs is a major service website that helps people like you, and I find 100% legitimate work that you can do from home, at a remote location or has some degree of flexibility. Flexjobs says this is a guarantee! The company promises that you will locate flexible jobs that are completely scam-free. Why is this exciting? Well, if you have experience looking for these types of positions you know that the primary concern for many job seekers is to find out if an opportunity is legitimate before submitting personal information. Flexjobs helps job seekers with this concern. You may be asking okay what is the catch here. Well, Flexjobs isn’t free. Today, the site cost $14.95 per month with options to save money by opting for a monthly or 3-month membership. I am currently a paying customer. There is a money back option in the event you are not happy with the services, but trust me you will love it. On the Flexjobs site, you will find many hand-screened opportunities from companies such as Apple, Amazon, ADP, and AMEX to name a few. As a college instructor and workforce development advocate, I have been extremely impressed by the level of job search advice and live webinars from the staff at Flexjobs. I think you will find that you will be well prepared to apply for opportunities as a Flexjobs member. Flexjobs also has an excellent customer service team. You will have phone, email and web support should you ever need it. Wouldn't it be incredibly convenient, to earn cash back on your online purchases? Online shopping can be made even better with Ebates. This company gives customers money back when they spend online. Ebates is a portal that offers some exclusive deals and coupons as well as the chance to get a percentage of what you spend returned to you as a rebate. How to Use Ebates
Using Ebates is incredibly easy. Once you sign up for free, you just need to make Ebates your first stop before heading to the website of the online store. Search for the store you’re looking for, then click the link and complete your purchase as normal. That’s it! The stated percentage of your sale will be returned to you later in what the company calls a “big fat check.” If you prefer, you can opt to have this deposited in your PayPal account. The money comes every three months, as long as you’ve earned at least $5.01. The rebate amount is generally within the range of 2-40% with 3-6% being the average. The percentage is different for each store. Individual stores and Ebates will occasionally offer special shopping days where you get a much higher percentage back. Unfortunately, not every store partners with Ebates, but over 2,000 stores do. Some online stores, like Amazon, only offer cashback through Ebates for particular categories of purchase. Stores like Macy's, Etsy, eBay, Sephora and many others offer cash back on all items. For most things you want to buy online, you can easily find an Ebates connected store to make your purchase. If you want getting money back to be as easy as possible, the Ebates Cash Back Button makes it simple. The extension, available for most browsers, will add a little button to your browser toolbar. This button will flash when you are on an online shopping site that uses Ebates. You can click on it to activate your Ebates shopping trip without having to leave the site. It’s that easy! It’s nice because then you don’t have to remember to go to Ebates before starting to shop. If you like to shop from your smartphone, there are also mobile apps for both iOS and Android phones. The amount of money you can earn depends on how much shopping you do. If you spent $1,000 in a year and earned an average of 5%, that would result in $50. If you shop online almost exclusively, and if you take advantage of some of the different high-percentage shopping days on the site, you could easily earn hundred of dollars each year. For almost zero effort, it’s money you wouldn’t have otherwise. You can use it for your holiday gift budget, or add it to savings, or use it for a rainy day. The site even makes it easy to send the money directly to a favorite charity or a family member. You may be wondering what is in it for Ebates and why would they give customers money back on their online purchases. As a user of this site for years, I can assure you that this is legit. Ebates works as an affiliate. Stores pay the company a commission when we shop at a retailer. They then share profit with users. If you are familiar with affiliate marketing, it is the same concept. My Experience I am happy to say that I have earned more than $200 back in a few years of using Ebates. I find the process to be very simple and the Ebates customer service team are excellent. Cash back is added to my account within a few days and sometimes the same day. If you ever have an issue the customer service team is one email away. I use Ebates every single time I make a purchase online. My savings includes makeup, clothes, shoes, computers, furniture, gifts and much more. Final Thoughts To be honest, if you shop online and you’re not using Ebates, you’re throwing money away. It is free and gives you cash or gift card bonus just for signing up! Whether you think of it as saving money or earning money, you really can’t go wrong with Ebates. I can say that I have been happy with the services. It is a great savings tool for anyone to use and earn cash back. Sign Up for a free account and start earning cash back! Are you new to the work from home lifestyle? Maybe working remotely is nothing new for you, but you are noticing that your social life is suffering? Either way, here are 7 tips to boost your social life despite your work arrangements. I am sure many would agree working remotely can be a rewarding experience. For me, I love avoiding those crazy commutes before and after work, wearing clothes that are comfortable, work-life balance, flexible hours and being able to break when needed. However, working from home can be lonely, and most times we don't get the same social interaction as traditional workers. The good news is there are steps we can take to help us be social, and there are ways to be social from your home office. Here are 7 tips you can use to help you remain social online and in-person as a work from home professional. #1 Join active Facebook and Slack communities that fit your interest and field of work. There will be days where you are unable to be social in-person. On those days, be active in Facebook and Slack communities that fit your interest or your career field. For example, I joined communities on both platforms that focus on blogging, teaching, and marketing. In these communities, I try to be very active and share content that members may find interesting. In these groups, members often share work opportunities, advice, and host meetups. From online groups, I have gained connections, clients, and contract opportunities. #2 Consider working in public places a few days a week. Working as a remote employee or independent contractor with no co-workers can be lonely at times. You might examine the options you have for working in public. Today, many places offer free Wi-Fi. Therefore, the opportunities for working in public are endless. Of course, you don't have to work at a public location every day of the week. However, working at a coworking space, coffee shop, park or even a library from time to time can help you meet other professionals or others enjoying their leisure time. Who knows, maybe you will meet a friend, business partner or future employer. Depending on your work, you might find that getting out of your home office and outside can offer the inspiration to create that graphic, written piece or get ahead in a work project. #3 Attend networking events that you know will have like minded people in attendance. This approach is an oldie but still very effective. Networking events are one of the best ways to meet new contacts and even run into old connections. You just never know who you will meet. You might find a friend, business partner, customer, supplier, etc. Networking events come in many forms. Speed networking, highlighting a business, open forums, and many others. Speed networking events are great if you are new to networking or returning to the social scene. It will force you to have short conversations with a handful of professionals. Therefore, boosting your confidence and encouraging you to attend more events. #4 Join professional associations. If you want to meet people in your area of work who are serious about their careers, consider joining a professional association. For example, I am a member of education and marketing professional organizations. I joined because I am interested in connecting with others in these fields. Most professional organizations require a yearly fee, but the outcomes can be worth it. Being surrounded by like-minded professionals can help you meet industry leaders, help boost your morale, keep you engaged and learning about your industry. #5 Get active with your Alma Mater. You probably spent a lot of time and money at your Alma Mater. Make sure you are taking advantage of your status as a graduate. I suggest that you become active with your school's alumni association. Whether you attend events or serve on a committee, being involved with your Alma Mater can help you establish great relationships and lead to other opportunities in the future. #6 Make sure you make time to go out with friends and family on a regular basis. Okay, I know this can be a hard one. We are all busy with work, but we need to make time for an outing with friends and family from time to time. The purpose that most of us seek to work from home is work-life balance. Set the time to have lunch, dinner, happy hour and have fun with friends and family! #7 Stay active with your professional network on LinkedIn. LinkedIn is an easy way to store your professional contacts and keep in touch. It is a platform that is created for networking and engaging with other professionals. You can create a personal or company brand presence, stay in the "know," remain active and build an audience for your content and products/services. Final Thoughts Being a work from home professional doesn’t have to be lonely and not engaging. You have the ability to make your remote environment work for you. If you need social interaction tailor your remote environment that gives you opportunities to be social and engage with others. However, If you need to be alone to finish a project, that is okay. The beauty of being a work from home professional is that we have the flexibility to do what is best for our creativity.
